About William
William completed his BA in Psychology after attending several universities in the Rockies and the Caribbean. After completing his undergraduate studies, William moved to Teton Valley and began working in mental health with kids in an outdoor and residential setting. Over the course of 5 years, this work led him to pursue a graduate degree as a counselor. William is a student at Montana State University-Billings completing a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Sciences. He has completed his advanced counseling coursework in individual and group settings and his practicum at Teton School District. As an intern, William is thrilled to bring an open mind and curiosity to Rooted while offering support to a variety of individuals.
When he isn’t reading textbooks or working, William is usually busy skiing, mountain biking, and trail running. He also enjoys making pizza, selling his pottery at art fairs and farmers markets, and seeing live music.William’s Philosophy:
William’s approach to counseling is centered on honesty, vulnerability, and a truly collaborative partnership aimed at practical results. He believes that therapy is most effective when a client's unique individuality is celebrated and utilized to discover creative, personalized solutions. When working with William, you can expect a warm space defined by genuine curiosity, open communication, and active encouragement.
Grounded in a person-centered framework, William encourages clients to take an active role throughout the therapeutic process. This approach maximizes your personal skill sets and unique abilities to solve problems, with the counselor encouraging creativity and adding new perspectives when necessary. William integrates Solution-Focused Therapy with present-focused strategies drawn from Gestalt Therapy. All of these therapeutic ingredients create an approach where you, as the client, are the expert of your experience and the driver for change. William’s communication style is straightforward and direct, balanced with compassion and empathy. He honors each client's unique story and values with open and transparent dialogue. To keep sessions purposeful and aligned with therapeutic goals, William is comfortable incorporating thoughtful redirections to keep the work moving forward efficiently. A therapeutic relationship based on trust, understanding, and acceptance of the present moment provides a sound structure and a safe environment for exploration and change.
